I am an upper elementary school teacher at Montessori of the Rio Grande Charter School. I have worked here since April 2005. During April and May of 2005, I worked as a roaming assistant before being assigned as an assistant teacher to the upper elementary classroom of Rebecca Gilson. After Rebecca moved to Texas in 2006, I assisted in Ms. Lauren McGehee’s upper elementary class as well as performed my student teaching to obtain my teachers license. The 2007-2008 school year was my first year as a lead teacher in the grade 4 / 5. This year I am team teaching with Ms. Mary Mattheyer in the upper elementary. I was born and raised in Woodstock, Illinois, graduating from high school in 1995. I spent several years attending college at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point majoring in Resource Management (a field of Environmental Science) before deciding that was not the direction I wanted to go with my life. After working construction for a year, I moved to Albuquerque with a best friend from grade school. I have lived here since July of 2000. Since moving to Albuquerque, I have waited tables at Olive Garden, worked at Kinder Care Learning Center, worked at an after-school care program at St. Therese Catholic School, and have completed an undergrad degree in Psychology from UNM. I am currently working on a masters degree in Elementary Education through UNM and plan to finish up in December 2008. It has been a great experience being able to work at MRGC while also attending classes at UNM. I can certainly say that the best educational experience has been my on the job experience. The children are all so wonderful, and I have learned so much from them over the past several years. Before moving to New Mexico, I would have had to say that my favorite hobby was waterskiing. Since I can’t afford a ski boat, and lakes are scarcer in the southwest, I have developed a great love of camping and hiking over the past 8 years. I have hiked several peaks in Colorado and New Mexico. I particularly enjoy the challenges of Colorado’s 14,000 ft. peaks. The land of enchantment has been a great place for me to live, work and go to school. |
