Governance Council

The Governance Council meets one at months at the school. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 2nd. Meetings are public and begin at 6:00 pm in the school conference room in the office. There is always a guest agenda item.

As the governance body for a public charter school, MRGC Collaborative Council and the charter school it acts to serve are governed by federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The Council has a responsibility to ensure that the school operates in accordance with these laws and regulations and meets its commitments to APS and the State Board of Education as reflected in its charter. We appreciate their commitment to supporting the mission and vision of the school.

If any family has concerns or suggestions for the Council, please submit in writing in their mailbox in the teacher's lounge, next to the office.

Marie Fuemmeler, Founder, Montessori of the Rio Grande, Inc.
Ms. Fuemmeler has been a preschool and elementary Montessori director/teacher for over twenty-four years. Ms. Fuemmeler and her husband founded and operated Montessori of the Rio Grande, Inc., a private Montessori school and it is through their vision and hard work that it was transformed to a charter public school, open to all.  MRGC was established for the purpose of bringing the world-renowned Montessori Method to Albuquerque’s public school system. Ellen Bayard, Los Duranes Neighborhood Association Representative
Ms. Bayard, a thirty year resident of New Mexico, is a retired member of the New Mexico Bar Association. She and her husband have a daughter who attended public schools both in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. She sits on the MRGC Council as a representative of the Los Duranes Neighborhood Association. Her previous board experience includes participation in the fund-raising arm of the Santa Fe Mountain Center and as board president of the Chorus of Santa Fe. Bretta Weiss-Wolff, Community Representative
Ms.Weiss-Wolff is the former National Director of the American Montessori Society and an internationally renowned expert in Montessori practice. Ms. Weiss-Wolff has been recognized by the AMS Society as a “Montessori Living Legend.” She presently serves as a consultant to Montessori institutions throughout the United States and serves on the Education Committee within the Council.  Ms. Weiss-Wolff may be reached at 296-4573 or weiss8285@aol.com.


Nancy Lopez, Secretary and Parent Representative

Nancy López is associate professor (2001-present) in the sociology department and co-director of the Institute for the Study of “Race” and Social Justice, housed at the Robert Wood Johnson Center for Health Policy at The University of New Mexico. Dr. López’s book, Hopeful Girls, Troubled Boys: Race and Gender Disparity in Urban Education (2003), and co-edited book, Creating Alternative Discourses in Latino and Latina Education (2004) examine the educational experiences of Latino/a and Black youth in the United States.  Her current work includes community-based action research on the achievement gap, discipline gap and indigenous education in New Mexico.  Prior to her appointment at UNM, Dr. Lopez taught in diverse urban public universities in New York City and Boston (1993-2001). Dr. López is a member of the Board of Directors of New Mexico Voices for Children (2007-present) and a member of the Los Duranes Neighborhood Association (2002-present).

 

Christopher McLaren, Parent Representative

Christopher McLaren is an Episcopal priest and is currently on the staff of St. Michael and All Angles Episcopal Church at 601 Montaño NW. in Albuquerque.  He is married to Maren McLaren and lives in the North Valley with their three children Sofia 5th grade, Cole 3rd grade and Talia Kindergarten all of whom attend MRGC.  Christopher is involved with community organizing in the city and hopes to help use those skills to build stronger relationships between MRGC, the Duranes neighborhood and other schools in Albuquerque. Christopher G. Kenny,  Vice-President and Parent Representative

Mr. Kenny is an attorney and is President of STAR Group, LLC, a strategic planning consulting firm that specializes in the design and implementation of effective stakeholder involvement strategies for collaborative action. Bonnie MacCallum-Dodge, MRGC Principal
As  MRGC Principal, Ms. Dodge is the school administrator. With over thirty years of experience as an educator and over fifteen in administration,  her expertise in leadership provides guidance and support for the vision and mission of the school. Debbie Pyott, Instructional Coach
Ms. Pyott has over twenty years of experience in Montessori educational programs. She is the lead onsite trainer for the Canadian Montessori Teacher Training Institute at MRGC. Her Canadian training and perspectives has provided the  school with clear expectations of what an authentic Montessori school should be. She can be reached at msdebbie@mrgcharter.org.

Matt Stinson, Lead Teacher Representative
Mr. Stinson is a relatively new Montessori educator. He has served as a Lead classroom teacher at MRGC for four years. His interest in serving on the Council is to ensure that the Montessori program is supported. Mr. Stinson may be reached at 306-2144 ormrmatt@mrgcharter.org.

Sabrina Raffaelli-Hernandez, Assistant Teacher Representative
