Montessori of the Rio Grande Charter School (MRGC ) is located among the cottonwood trees of Albuquerque’s historic North Valley. Following the ideals and practices developed by Maria Montessori qualified teachers and instructional assistants provide an individualized, enriched and holistic academic program to 190 public school children, from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.

  • MRGC has operated as a tuition-free public charter school for 7 years.
  • Diverse student population: 40% Hispanic, 11% Native American, 6% African American, 1% Asian, and 42% Caucasian. Of these students, 11% meet the criteria for special education.
  • Students have met the Federal government's "Adequate Yearly Progress" standard five years of our operation as a charter school.
  • In addition to traditional Montessori programs we offer students fine arts, bilingual enrichment, and wellness/physical education.
  • We provide an extensive before- and after-school program offering students a wide variety of activities as well as tutorial services for students not at grade-level in reading and/or mathematics.
  • Majority of faculty have Master's Degrees or higher and are not only State Certified but Montessori Certified.
  • The faculty draws on their diverse backgrounds and experience to provide a unique educational experience for our students.
  • Accredited through North Cental Accreditation.
  • Governing Board is experienced and professional, with a history of solid financial oversight and control.
